Folktales is a creative studio shaped by a love for everyday people and stories, run by Kathryn Weenig in Duluth, MN. Folktales’ approach to photography and writing is:
Bespoke and intentional
Attentive and collaborative
Guided by process and narrative as they unfold
The studio tells the stories of families experiencing change, brands deepening connections, and others drawn to meaningful details and humanizing contexts.
Folktales’ work communicates—between loved ones, from business to customer. Folktales shares who you are, where you’ve been, what you do, and why you do it. Have another idea? Let’s try it!
Fun fact: The studio doesn’t use social media. If you’re here, you found Folktales via word of mouth or analog advertising.

Kathryn loved writing as soon as she could hold a pencil and started taking pictures as a teenager. Throughout her career, she has—in different ways—told stories and helped people tell their own.
While working as an award-winning student journalist, she studied creative writing and later, studio art. She also completed a Master of Social Work, focusing her studies and practice on trauma recovery.
Now, Folktales allows her to combine her observant artistic lens with social work chops like sensitivity and meaning-making. Kathryn parents while running the studio, with her loyal and silly partner and pups by her side.
